New players can arrive early on Friday for Mahj Made Easy, a beginner-friendly introduction to American Mahjong before Mahjong on the River officially begins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I come by myself?
Absolutely! Many guests attend on their own, and it's one of the things that makes the retreat so special. You'll quickly find yourself among friends who share your love of American Mahjong, and there are plenty of opportunities to connect throughout the weekend.
What skill level is this retreat for?
All skill levels are welcome, but if you're brand new to American Mahjong, please add the optional Friday Mahj Made Easy class before the retreat begins.
Is lodging included in my registration?
No. Retreat registration and hotel accommodations are booked separately. A special $119-per-room, per-night group rate is available at BridgePointe Hotel & Marina.
Do I have to stay at BridgePointe?
No. You're welcome to stay elsewhere, although staying at the host hotel makes it especially easy to enjoy the full weekend.
What meals are included?
We're pleased to include our Welcome Reception, Saturday Breakfast and Dinner, and Sunday's Farewell Brunch. Lunch on Saturday is on your own, but it is a great opportunity to explore New Bern!
Do I need to bring my own Mahjong set?
We will offer a variety of traditional and decorative sets. If you'd like to bring a set, please let us know when you register!
What is the optional Friday beginner class?
Mahj Made Easy is a separate beginner class on Fridays from 11 AM–2 PM for guests who want to learn American Mahjong before the retreat begins. Separate registration is required.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
Cancellations made in writing before January 31, 2027 will receive a full refund.
Cancellations between February 1 and March 15, 2027 will receive a refund minus a $100 administrative fee.
After March 15, 2027, registrations are non-refundable, but may be transferred to another guest or applied as credit toward a future Mahj & Mingle Event if your spot can be filled.
Preordered merchandise can be canceled up to January 31, 2027; after that, it will be available for pickup at the event or shipped at the attendee's expense.
